Verse of the week: Luke 11:9

Our verse of the week this week is Luke 11:9, which in the New International Version is:

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

In The Message this verse translates as:

Here’s what I’m saying:

Ask and you’ll get;
Seek and you’ll find;
Knock and the door will open.

Practice and memorize this verse this week, so you’ll be able to recite it without assistance next Sunday. Have a great week!

Life is not fair – What is up with that?

Today in Sunday school we are starting a new theme: “What About When My Parents are Unfair?” Life is not fair, and this is true when we are older as well as when we are young. This lesson fits in with the faith theme of “Honoring Authority.” The three primary scripture verses we are discussing for this lesson are:

  • John 12:49 (Jesus obeyed his Father, even going to the cross)
  • 1 Corinthians 13:11-12 (Sometimes we see things differently than our parents or others do)
  • 1 Peter 2:18-25 (when have you experienced unfair treatment? How does God want you to respond?)

This week, take some time to discuss read these Bible verses which we’re introducing in Sunday school together with another member of the family. Make some time to eat a meal together, and talk about them. Ask each person to tell about a memorable experience that was not fair, and how they reacted.

Next week we will be planning skits together which illustrate the ideas we’re discussing in this lesson series.
